In the Gospel of Luke, Mary calls herself a "slave of the Lord" (Luke 1:38, see also v. 48). Often translated as "servant," the broad meaning potential of this title has been overlooked. Also other characters in the gospels (fx. Simeon in Luke 2:29) as well as Paul in his letters (Rom 1:1; Gal 1:1 and Tit 1:1) employ this title, but I will argue that the intertextual and intersectional context of Mary in Luke is different. No other characters offer their reproductive capital in the service of the Lord.
